There are two main types of letter in sinhala and they follow one of the two patterns laid down below when adding vowel strokes to modify the consonant.

On the left you can see the vowel sound in both the Sinhala script and the transcribed form. On the right you can see the modifications need to change the vowel sound associated with the consonant. Please look at the letter videos for clear examples of how all these letters are formed.
